FRONTLINE PLUS Related FAQ

What is FRONTLINE PLUS?

Frontline Plus is a highly effective topical flea and tick treatment for dogs and cats. Frontline Plus kills all adult fleas in 12 hours and ticks and chewing lice in 48 hours thanks to its quick action. Not only that, but Frontline Plus eliminates four different varieties of ticks (Brown dog ticks, Deer ticks, American dog ticks, and Lone star ticks) that are known to transmit Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and other diseases with just one application. Furthermore, it disrupts the entire lifecycle of fleas by destroying their eggs and larvae, preventing a recurrence of the infestation. Dogs are protected for 30 days, thanks to its non-stop activity and waterproof composition.

How does FRONTLINE PLUS work?

FRONTLINE PLUS contains two active ingredients that work together to disrupt the flea life cycle at each stage. One of the ingredients kills adult fleas on your pet. The other ingredient prevents fertile eggs from being laid and larval and pupal development, so preventing re-infestation of your pet and contamination of your home.

What are the ingredients in FRONTLINE PLUS?

Frontline Plus contains the active ingredients fipronil and s-methoprene. Fipronil is a broad-spectrum pesticide that paralyzes and kills parasites by interrupting their central nervous system and rendering them immobile. The s-methoprene for dogs is an insect growth regulator (IGR), which allows Frontline Plus to prevent the flea life cycle from continuing.

What types of FRONTLINE PLUS are there?

Frontline Plus for Dogs and Frontline Plus for Cats are two different types of treatment for dogs and cats. Both are topical solutions. Frontline Plus is also available in spray form as Frontline Spray.

What is the difference between FRONTLINE PLUS FOR DOGS and FRONTLINE PLUS FOR CATS?

While the components in Frontline Plus for dogs & cats are identical (fipronil and s-methoprene), the dosages for dogs are substantially higher, and the formulation is suited to the species for which it is developed. You may hear stories about overly frugal pet parents dosing out a single large dog prescription among four or five cats with a syringe; not only is this behavior unsafe to the pets, but it is also a violation of federal drug rules. Please use only the indicated dose. Your pets will appreciate it.

Is FRONTLINE PLUS safe to use on breeding, pregnant, or breastfeeding dogs?

Yes, Frontline has been properly tested and is suitable for breeding, pregnant, and lactating dogs.

Are there any side effects to using FRONTLINE PLUS?

Dogs and cats may have minor irritation at the site(s) of application, although this normally resolves itself within a day or two. However, if the disease persists, contact your veterinarian right away.

How frequently should I apply FRONTLINE PLUS?

For the best flea control, treat all of your dogs and cats once a month. FRONTLINE PLUS is effective against fleas for at least one month when used correctly. If you live in a paralysis tick-infested area, apply FRONTLINE PLUS FOR DOGS every 2 weeks to keep your dog safe from paralysis ticks. If you live with a paralysis tick-infested area and have a cat, use FRONTLINE SPRAY every three weeks to keep paralysis ticks at bay.

Is FRONTLINE PLUS effective as a flea repellent?

No. FRONTLINE PLUS is a flea treatment that works by exposing fleas to the active ingredients on your pet’s coat. Unfortunately, there is no product on the market that repels fleas or rapidly kills ticks. Regardless of the flea control solution used, fleas must jump onto treated pets to come into contact with the active component, and all products require time to kill those fleas.

What should I do if my dog experiences any side effects with FRONTLINE PLUS?

It is extremely unlikely that your dog will experience any negative effects after using Frontline Plus. However, if you observe any negative effects on your dog after using Frontline, call or take your dog to the vet as soon as possible.
